Hair masks with microgreens: a green remedy for your hair

Today we bring you a new article dedicated to hair health, as part of our natural cosmetics series. In a previous post, we talked about the benefits microgreens offer for hair care, and today we’re taking it one step further by putting that knowledge into practice.

Thanks to their high concentration of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, microgreens have become the perfect ally for revitalizing hair naturally at home. As you know, we love experimenting with new ways to incorporate them beyond the kitchen: we’ve used them in face masks, skincare products, and now we’ve tried two microgreen based hair masks, perfect for repairing and nourishing your hair after the summer months.

So, why use microgreens in hair care?

First, because they are rich in vitamins C, E, and B complex, which promote hair growth and fiber repair. They are also packed with essential minerals like zinc, iron, and magnesium that help strengthen hair follicles. And, as we’ve mentioned in previous articles, many microgreens are loaded with antioxidants that fight damage caused by pollution and oxidative stress, leaving your hair shinier and healthier.

Now, let’s get to the good part: how to prepare a DIY microgreen hair mask…

Nourishing microgreen & coconut oil mask

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of fresh microgreens (broccoli, sunflower, or radish work well)
  • 2 tablespoons of virgin coconut oil
  • 1 tablespoon of honey (optional, for extra hydration)

Preparation:

  1. Wash the microgreens and blend them in a food processor until you get a smooth paste.
  2. Mix with coconut oil and honey until you have a uniform mask.

Application:

  • Apply from mid-length to ends on damp hair.
  • Gently massage the scalp to stimulate circulation.
  • Leave on for 20–30 minutes, then rinse with lukewarm water.

Detox microgreen & aloe vera mask

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of microgreens (broccoli or mustard are great for their purifying effect)
  • 3 tablespoons of natural aloe vera gel
  • 1 teaspoon of lemon juice (optional, for oily scalps)

Preparation and use:

Follow the same steps as for the previous mask.
This mask is ideal for hair prone to oil buildup or product residue.

Tips for best results

  • Always use fresh, well washed microgreens to avoid impurities.
  • Apply once a week if your hair is dry or damaged, or every two weeks if it’s normal or oily.
  • If you have a sensitive scalp, do a patch test first to rule out any allergies.

In conclusion, microgreens are no longer just a gourmet ingredient, they are now a natural beauty ally. Adding them to your homemade hair masks provides vitamins and antioxidants that restore strength and shine to your hair in a simple, ecofriendly way.
