Grow microgreens at home

A windowsill, a tray and 7 to 14 days are enough. Microgreens are young vegetable seedlings harvested just after their first leaves open, and they are the easiest possible entry into growing your own food — no garden, no special equipment, no experience needed. Our free guides take you through the full loop: grow, harvest, cook.

Who this is for

This page is for anyone who wants fresh greens at home and has never grown anything before — students in a shared flat, families with curious children, anyone with a sunny kitchen window. If you already grow a tray or two, the same resources will help you try new crops and sharpen your technique. Everything here is free and written in plain language by the team and volunteers behind our growing space in Athens.

What we offer

39 step-by-step home guides

Free articles covering every stage of growing indoors: choosing trays and substrates, sowing, watering, light, harvesting, and fixing common problems along the way. Each guide stands on its own, so you can start with the basics or jump straight to the one that answers today’s question.

The Varieties database

29 crop guides, one per crop. Pick a crop and get exact growing instructions for it, from sowing to harvest, so your first tray starts with a choice that suits your kitchen, your patience and your taste.

The 10-Day Growing Guide

A universal day-by-day companion that takes you from seed to harvest in ten days, written for first-time growers. It is published as an open draft, so you can follow it today and tell us what to improve.

From the knowledge base

New guides appear here as the team publishes them — three of the latest from our grow-at-home library:

There is plenty more where these came from: growing guides, recipes, and health and lifestyle articles are all collected on our blog.

How to start

  1. Pick an easy crop in the Varieties database and read its guide, which tells you exactly what that crop needs and when.
  2. Follow the 10-Day Growing Guide day by day, from sowing your seeds to cutting your first harvest.
  3. Harvest with clean scissors and put your greens straight to work in a recipe from the cookbook.
  4. If you get stuck, or simply want company while you learn, write to us or join one of our workshops in Athens.
