The microgreens method across Erasmus+ & ESC
One hands-on method that works for any vocation and any age — backed by a working growing space in Athens, a team experienced in hosting international volunteers, and this live portal of open educational content. Everything the methodology produces is open, free and stays online after project funding ends. This portal is the method in depth; the organisation behind it, and any Erasmus+ or ESC partnership, lives with EVEC Athens at evec.org.gr.

The method, field by field
The method spans four Erasmus+ fields, and it also runs through the European Solidarity Corps, where it began.
School Education
A tray of seeds becomes a ten-day classroom journey through science, nutrition and sustainability, supported by experiment journals and facilitator notes. Our toolkit for lower-secondary learners (13-14) is published as an open draft that teachers can test and shape. Microgreens in schools →
VET
Microgreens are a genuinely low-cost setting for work-based learning and green skills, because learners grow, harvest and sell a real product in days rather than seasons. We contribute growing infrastructure, training content and a bootcamp-style toolkit joining cultivation with business planning, currently published as an open draft. Microgreens for VET →
Youth
Our international volunteers run hands-on workshops in Athens on urban growing, harvesting and cooking, built on non-formal learning methods. We develop open toolkits that youth workers can reuse, including a journey for ages 15 to 19 where teams build a small hydroponic system with sensors and collect their own data. Adult Education
With the 29-guide Varieties crop database, a tested cookbook and a Science Library that rewrites open-access research in plain language, microgreens become an accessible entry point to food, health and sustainability learning. European Solidarity Corps
ESC is its own EU programme, not an Erasmus+ sector, and it is where the methodology started: it was born inside an ESC project and is still built and run by international volunteers, so we know hosting from the inside. Almost everything below is live and in daily use today: the portal with its 110+ open articles, the Varieties crop database, the Science Library, three free self-paced Academy courses, the cookbook and the growing space in Athens. The four toolkits are different, and deliberately so: they are open drafts a consortium can help finish — and finishing them is a ready-made work package.

A track record you can verify
We keep it plain and verifiable, and we keep two things distinct. The microgreens methodology is what this portal documents: it has been running since 2025, born inside European Solidarity Corps project 2024-1-EL02-ESC51-VTJ-000225260, “Stay Healthy, Beautiful and Young — Detox with Microgreens”, and everything it produces is published openly here — so you can check the results by opening them rather than by taking our word. The organisation behind the methodology is EVEC Athens — European Voluntary and Educational Center — a non-profit NGO working in European projects since 2017, accredited for Erasmus+ Youth and holding the ESC Quality Label; the organisation’s own site, where partnerships are arranged, is evec.org.gr. Blagoj Ristov, Erasmus+ Project Coordinator & Strategy Lead, coordinates EVEC’s projects across KA1, KA2 and ESC and designed the microgreens-based training programmes. Mirlena Charisi, President of EVEC Athens and Educational Director, is a certified adult trainer specialising in non-formal and vocational education methodology and inclusive curriculum design. Bring your project concept, the priorities you are targeting and the role you need filled; EVEC maps it against the growing space, the audiences and this open content, tells you honestly what it can contribute, and helps define activities, learning outcomes and dissemination while the application is written. A typical role: EVEC prepares a draft toolkit and method briefing, partner organisations pilot it with their learners and send structured feedback, and the final open-licensed version is published here, where it stays free and visible after funding ends — delivered as OER v1.0 plus a pilot report.
